TCJ My-Stock DB Reports/PDF

The mistake of buying duplicate and unneeded parts can be both expensive and annoying. Carrying a part stock list, however, can save you from this mistake. Additionally, should your house burn to the ground it is unlikely that the insurance company will believe that you owned a tube collection valued at $50,000 (assuming you owned two hundred NOS Western Electric 300Bs), but a printed list of your complete collection would help put a smile on your face, as the smile falls from the insurance agent’s face.

TCJ My-Stock DB can print a tabular report of what is in your collection. (If you want a list of just transistors or just PNP transistors or just PNP transistors in a TO-3 case or just the part that used in a project, such as a line amplifier, first apply a filter to that effect, then create the report.)

The report consists of columns you choose to print and whose width you specify. For example, if you have filtered the database to show only tubes made by RCA, there would be no need to print a column listing the part type (Tube) or its brand (RCA), as all the parts are tubes from RCA, but you would want the part name printed, along with its quantity, condition, part group (triode, pentode, etc), part style (9-pin miniature, octal), its location (box 1, box 2, box3), its value, and its status (keep, sell, trade). There are 16 columns from which to choose.

As a column is selected, its width in the printed report is displayed. This value can be increased or decreased to your liking. The total width of all the columns to be printed is also displayed. The reports are printed in landscape mode, so there is a good amount of space available, but not enough for all the columns.

The default destination is the Print Preview screen, and with good cause, as it allows you to see what you have defined before wasting ink or toner.

PDF Creation

Paper isn’t quite dead—yet. The PDF file format is working towards that end. It has made reading text and seeing images much easier on a computer screen; and when comes to emailing a report, nothing beats a PDF. To create a PDF first choose “Print to File,” rather than to a printer (or if within the print preview, select “Save As” from the “File” entry on its menu bar). Second, be sure to type in a name for the PDF. Third, Select “PDF” under format. Selecting a directory to hold the PDF and pressing the “ok” button is all that is left to do.
