TCJ My-Stock DB Part Image Display

Digging through a tall stack of bins to look at a part can be a huge hassle, if you have as many bins as I do. On the other hand, selecting a part in TCJ My-Stock DB can display the same part. If a part image (JPG format) is available, it can be added to the database. First, press the vertical “Image-Search” button, then press the “Add Image” button, which will bring up an “Open Picture” dialog box. Seeing what the part looks like can be a real time saver when you are hunting for the part and you don’t remember what the part looks like.

The image format is JPG or JPEG. The picture exchange rate usually hovers around one thousand words per picture. However, a thousand words can take up much less space on a hard drive than a large picture, so resist the urge to save mega-pixel photos of carbon-film resistors. A reasonable image file size is 5 to 50k.

A digital camera is not necessary. For example, the images shown at the left was taken with a $100 flatbed scanner set at 96 DPI. Alternatively, TCJ My-Stock DB can search the net for an image, as well. (Well, actually, it has Google do the hard work and look for images for you.) Just press the “Part Image” link, as shown at the bottom and the program auto loads the required search string into the browser.

If the image is larger than the display window, then the “View at actual size” button can be pressed, which will bring up a larger window, which in turn will hold the image at full size. Click on the image below for an example.
