Vacuum Tubes??? 
   Vacuum tubes ("valves," to the Brits) are not dead.  If a soldier were to return home after having spent the last twenty-five years hiding in the dense Vietnamese jungle, he would be shocked to see the deposed vacuum tube resurrected and coveted in both professional music and high-end audio. At a recent high-end stereo show, transistor gear was in the minority. Many musicians are now returning to the tube amplifiers that gave greats like Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles their sound. Perhaps only the cigar can compete with the vacuum tube for the title of the true Comeback Kid. Tube gear is fun to work with because it is so economical in parts and straightforward in function. One triode in a circuit can equal one amplifier and a very good amplifier at that.
